It's not easy being a CTO - Chief Technology Officer, especially in today's competitive era like. So that no one step in making decisions about the direction of technology companies, consider the success tips from one of the best-ever CTO. 

In a meeting of the opportunity to interview Hu Yoshida, CTO Vice President and Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) who was visiting Indonesia. In short opportunity, we try to discuss a bit about the world of CTO. 

Not without reason the discussion was chosen. Because the Japanese-born man who lived in the United States is already full to eat sour salt technology world. Prior to joining HDS since 1997 ago (until now), Yoshida had spent 25 years of his life to work for IBM. 

At IBM, he held roles in manajamen to hardware performance, software development, and product management. Science he learned in his old office is what helped him in developing open standards for storage management while joining HDS. 

After that, its responsibility was increased to set a business strategy in the field of HDS Storage Area Network, Network Attached Storage, and all things related to networking and data technology. Its peak in 2006, he was crowned as 'CTO of the Year' thanks to its success. 

So, what is the key to success? 

"Being a CTO is currently challenging. You not only have to understand the world of technology., But the biggest challenge is you have a lot to talk with other people. You must be willing to listen and look for answers solutions to their needs," said Yoshida. 

The theory sounds easy, but difficult in practice. For Yoshida, that's the weakness of the IT people at this time. Most are too engrossed in his own world and often do not understand the people who live outside the world of technology. 

And he said, it's basically just the technology tools to make human life much easier and fun. IT, according to him, does not need to be made more complicated. Enough IT people who bother thinking about it. That is why, they always paid handsomely. 

However, increasingly complex IT world also need the distribution of knowledge. In order for the general public at large are also able to understand what the technology trends that occur at this time. For example, about big data, cloud computing, and the like. Because of this technology, without realizing it had become part of the lives of today's digital society. 

He also told me a little about the phenomenon of big data which inevitably can not be avoided. In today's world of social media, you can imagine how the amount of data generated from the post in the form of text, images, sounds, videos and even every day around the world. Already then, the file is very large it is still stored in the cloud every day. 

"Storage is no longer so our main business today. We are used to from mainframes to storage, and now to the cloud. People also began to be willing to share the infrastructure, which is why we encourage the storage as a services. Technologies around us is changing, so we have to come change and innovate in order to move forward, "said Yoshida. 

Yoshida himself is a graduate of the University of California Berkeley with a degree in mathematics. Prior to a career in technology, he has served as a Platoon Commander, Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and stopping with the rank of Captain. 

At the age began to dusk, Yoshida claimed to have been preparing to enter retirement are no longer possible. He wants to realize his old dream that pent; become an academic. 

"I love to share their knowledge and explain it to people, that's why I wanted to be a teacher. Sometimes I also like to write on the blog. Was my goal when no longer working in the IT world in the future," he concluded.
