Facebook has agreed to acquire the messaging service WhatsApp worth USD 19 billion, the process is not final because it is still awaiting approval from regulators. But a privacy agency requested that the acquisition was blocked.

Institute of Electronic Privacy Information Center and the Center for Digital Democracy (EPIC) cast a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission regulators in the United States, which called for the acquisition of Facebook to WhatsApp investigated. Therefore, suspicion would collect Facebook user data WhatsApp for business interests.

"Users rely on WhatsApp WhatsApp to maintain the privacy of users communications. Complaint we requested that the FTC investigate whether there are privacy protection WhatsApp to protect user data from Facebook," said Julia Horwitz of EPIC.

If Facebook is collecting the data WhatsApp later, then it was regarded as a dirty business practices. So EPIC expect if the FTC approved the acquisition of Facebook on WhatsApp, it must be ensured WhatsApp user data will not be accessed by Facebook.

Facebook Party itself directly respond to the complaint. They try to assert that the user's privacy WhatsApp WhatsApp remains a priority and will remain an independent company.

"As we have said repeatedly, WhatsApp will operate as a separate company and will honor the commitment to privacy and security," the statement quoted Facebook's Reuters on Friday (07/03/2014).
